Bug hunting

You will need something to put your bugs in with holes in it to make sure that all the bugs can breathe, like a tub or a jar. (Put the holes in the lid and make sure they are small enough so the bugs cannot escape, but air can still get in so they can breathe.)

Now that you’re ready to catch some bugs, you can go into your garden and search all of your grass and plants for any bugs that might be a hiding in the leaves or grass. When you find a bug, you need to either carefully try to pick it up with your hands or get a leaf and try and get it onto the leaf and put the leaf with the bug in your jar or tub.

When your bug is in the tub or jar you can leave the lid off or put the lid on it and if your bug tries to climb or jump out of your jar or tub I would recommend putting the lid on. If you want to get a better look at your bug you can get a magnifying glass and look at your bug with that or if you have a phone or an tablet, you can use the camera and zoom in on your bug to look at it.

(Remember to release the bugs after you have finished looking at them.)

These are some examples of bugs you might be able to find in your garden:
